Stamps
The raw, rebellious energy of British punk in the 1970s inspired my stamp project. The idea centres on the leaders of the Conservative Party, who were frequently the subject of anti-establishment and punk rhetoric. The Conservative figure’s side portrait on each stamp creates a powerful visual remark on authority and power, which purposefully mimics the Queen’s famous side profile. Gritty textures, punk-inspired lettering, and a colour scheme taken straight from old punk posters from the period are all piled into the designs. I produced a zine, a format with strong roots in punk culture, to showcase the stamps. Because they provided a do-it-yourself platform for underground communication and self-expression free from the influence of the media, zines played a crucial role in the movement. The accompanying video explores a collage aesthetic, using stop-motion-inspired effects to reflect the chaotic, handmade style typical of punk visuals. Together, the elements form a unified tribute to the era’s rebellious spirit and creative defiance.
